The Maximum Surgical Blood Ordering Schedule (MSBOS) designates the appropriate pretransfusion testing secondary to the estimated quantity of blood product units required to facilitate the potential need of 90 per cent of patients undergoing specific surgical procedures. Adoption of the MSBOS allows for efficient allocation of blood on the day of scheduled surgery.
